Description


As our Director of Finance and Accounting, you will lead the financial management and accounting of the investment vehicles the firm manages. This includes overseeing the financial performance and value creation of the individual investment properties including cash management, distributions, capital calls, asset performance, debt strategies, asset valuations, accounting, reporting, compliance, audit and investor communication as needed.

Your primary responsibilities will include:

  • Partner with the investment/asset management team and firm partners to oversee the financial strategy of each investment vehicle and the financial strategies of the assets in each investment vehicle. 
  • Lead a team of asset management accountants to implement financial strategies at the asset level to yield greater value and distributions including cash management, debt financing and value creation.
  • Oversee the asset management accounting team to audit property financials on a monthly basis and make recommendations on cash distributions and capital calls to and from investors.
  • Develop and maintain the fund models to track and ensure maximum fund performance as measured by IRR and absolute returns. 
  • Lead quarterly valuations of all the assets including annual third-party appraisals.
  • Lead the timely and accurate preparation of financial statements and quarterly reports to investors and partners. 
  • Prepare all capital calls and distributions to fund Limited Partners and other investment partners.
  • Oversee all reporting in accordance with generally accepted accounting principles, regulatory requirements and bank policies.
  • Prepare any and all reports to property and fund lenders/credit lines.
  • Analyze and optimize workflow of the department, ensuring proper controls are in place to safeguard assets/risk management for the funds and by implementing, documenting, monitoring, and enhancing new policies and procedures as needed.
  • Oversee the accounting staff in managing monthly reconciliations, transaction inputs and closing entries for the investment vehicles.
  • Lead all third-party audits of the multiple investment vehicles, where required.
  • Coordinate the annual preparation of tax returns and K-1s for the investors in the various investment vehicles.

  • Strategic thinker and strong collaborator who adds value to the broader team’s decisions on investments, asset value growth and financial strategies to improve investor returns.
  • Comprehensive knowledge of U.S. GAAP guidelines.
  • Outstanding modeling skills within MS excel.
  • Experience with multiple entity consolidations that include non-controlling interests.
  • Experience with the fair value accounting and financial reporting under ASC 820. 
  • Experience with complex multi-tiered JV structures that include both preferred equity and waterfall based incentives.
  • Ability to successfully interface and build strong cross-functional relationships with all levels of internal and external partners and team members, finding common ground and solving problems for the good of all.
  • Ability to query data from accounting software and analyze using Excel.
  • A strong customer focus, with dedication to meeting the expectations, needs and requirements of internal and external customers.
  • Familiarity with ILPA reporting standards.
  • Ability to lead and develop direct reports, providing challenging tasks and assignments while creating strong morale and spirit on the team, managing performance as needed.
  • Understanding of accounting for multiple partnership entities.
  • Ability to follow up on, and following through with, multiple priorities and tasks, meeting tight deadlines and maintaining composure under pressure.
  • Excellent analytical skills with great attention to detail.


Minimum Qualifications:

  • A Bachelor’s Degree or equivalent in Accounting or related field.
  • Minimum 6 years of accounting experience.
  • Minimum of 3 years of experience in the real estate investment industry.
  • Minimum of 1 year in a supervisory role.
  • Experience with the audit process.
  • 2 years of public accounting experience and CPA certification (or CPA candidate) preferred.
