We are a mid-sized multi-family housing developer based in Santa Monica with an immediate opening for a Finance Director/Controller to take a hands-on role in managing our accounting group and work proactively with our Principals on budgeting, forecasting, cash management and planning. You will report directly to the Principals of the firm while interacting with other managers in the organization.The ideal candidate will have a strong proven track record in the real estate industry, a desire to join a growing firm, and experience with QuickBooks and Sage accounting software.
 
Job Responsibilities:
Manage interactively with our accounting team to maintains records of financial transactions by establishing accounts; posting transactions; processing and paying A/P; tracking and reporting all A/R; processing and issuing invoices and associated releases; maintain all financial reporting with projections; cash and cash flow management; credit management, and perform special projects as needed.
 
Job Duties:
• Assist with the development and implementation of bookkeeping policies and procedures
• Review and oversee accounting teams’ activities
• Develop accounting team members
• Maintain accounts by verifying, allocating, and posting transactions
• Balance general ledger by preparing a trial balance; reconciling entries
• Support and assist with the preparation of construction draws for internal and external financial partners
• Prepare financial reports by analyzing and summarizing account information and trends
• Create forecasts and budgets
• Prepare monthly financials and variance to budget reports for properties in our portfolio
• Work with third party accountants on audits and tax returns
• Work with Principles on financing of new development projects
• Comply with federal, state, and local legal requirements by studying requirements; enforcing adherence to requirements; filing reports; advising management on needed actions
 
Skills and Qualifications:
• Strong understanding of Generally Accepted Accounting Principles
• Experience with consolidating financial statements of related companies
• High level of proficiency with spreadsheets, QuickBooks and Sage
• Excellent communication skills – written, oral and interpersonal
• Attention to Detail, Confidentiality and Thoroughness
• Bachelor's degree required with a concentration in real estate, finance, business or accounting
• CPA and/or MBA preferred
• Multifamily real estate development, construction, or property management experience preferred
• Yardi experience preferred
