Our client is a global, publicly-traded construction/development company with projects and investments around the world.

POSITION OVERVIEW

Reporting to the North American, Director of Operations (the COO), the Senior Strategy Manager develops and presents independent research to help guide strategic direction and focus of principal investment activity across the Americas region and manages a team to support.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

The following statements are intended to describe the general nature and level of work being performed by individuals assigned to this position.

Responsibilities include:

  • Develops and communicates company/regional strategy and how the financial decisions and commercial activities across the organization are interrelated and impact the ability to successfully deliver that strategy.
  • Provides consistent and insightful independent research (recurring and ad-hoc) to help guide strategic direction and focus of principal investment activity across the United States. Strategic research will be required at a primary geographic / sector level (macro) as well as to support and vet individual opportunities (micro). Strategy and research work will be primarily independent from city and sector level teams, but the position will require a collaborative approach with local working teams as well as Group research (Australia).
  • Proactively spot trends from a commercial perspective to identify opportunities from the underlying data, and create investment thesis in the short and long-term views across the United States.
  • Leverage technology and available datasets to create unique insights (data mining and visualization, GIS, etc.).
  • Bring commercial understanding (deal underwriting and structures) as well as broader research and strategic capability to develop strategy theses.
  • Coordinate and direct team efforts in the pursuit of one-off opportunities in Merger & Acquisitions, Strategic Joint Ventures, and Portfolio Acquisitions. Work with local teams on individual one-off deals as necessary.
  • Participate in reviewing opportunities presented by local and sector teams while ensuring opportunities are consistent with strategy and thoroughly researched.
  • Pro-actively and collaboratively work with the wider team.
  • Act as a key member of cross functional teams on project assignments that include a balance of Mergers & Acquisitions, Organic Growth Initiatives, Partnering Transactions, Strategic Ventures to meet the goals and objectives of the Region.
  • Assist in providing guidance on large Capital Transactions and ensure they are supporting the overall Region strategy.
  • Assist in leading certain transactions related functions and requirements with internal and external stakeholders.
  • Measure and monitor business activity and ensures focus on key success factors.
  • Assist in ensuring compliance and embedment of corporate programs such as the Safety GMRs, Code of Conduct, etc.
  • Assist in driving the embedment, adoption and continued usage of the business processes with the Region.
  • Develop cohesiveness through a strategic focus, open communication, knowledge sharing and collaborative problem solving.
  •  Manage self in line with organizational values.
  • Help ensure appropriate people are involved at the right points in the decision making and submission process.
QUALIFICATIONS

  • Undergraduate degree in economics, computer science, mathematics, or property related field
  • Post-graduate qualifications desirable but not essential
  • Range of 7 to 12+ years of experience in banking, management consulting, or real estate related fields
  • Understanding of real estate / development industry, effective deal structures, and development briefs
  • Commercial acumen, including understanding of real estate / property sector, feasibility analysis and conceptual development planning
  • Advanced computer skills with focus on excel and previous work with large amounts of data. Understanding of graphics and preparation of presentations.
  • Strong focus on delivering results
  • Ability to operate with a high degree of independence
  • Ability to communicate complex ideas effectively and with confidence (internally and potentially externally)
