We are searching for an Analyst, Portfolio Management who is a self starter, assertive, confident, and enthusiastic in our Boston, MA headquarters. 

Under the general direction of the VP, Portfolio Manager or AVP, Associate Portfolio Manager, the Analyst, Portfolio Management will assist in overseeing their respective portfolios on behalf of Berkshire.  


ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

The Analyst, Portfolio Management will participate in decision making with the Portfolio Manager(s) in all aspects of effectively overseeing their respective portfolios including but not limited to the following:


Freddie Mac Securitized Investments (“CME”):

  • Active contributor in all aspects and throughout the lifecycle of each investment
  • Responsibilities may include coordinating due diligence, underwriting individual assets, cashflow modeling, preparation of investment committee memorandum, asset management & surveillance
  • Prepare transaction summaries for capital calls and closing announcements
  • Monthly watchlist review to provide updates to Portfolio Manager(s)
    • Identify assets of concern
    • Collaborate with external parties to receive and provide current information
  • Maintaining master asset list to keep Portfolio Manager(s) aware of outstanding exposures
  • Re-underwriting assets that are struggling with performance
  • Analytic support for dispositions

Bridge Lending Platform:

  • Reviewing asset management requests (draw request, budget modifications, etc.) for approval
  • Maintaining master asset list to keep Portfolio Manager(s) aware of outstanding exposures
    • Coordinate with production team to provide visibility into future exposures when considering the pipeline of new loans
  • Tracking performance of existing loans against the business plan at hand
  • Engaging with Sponsors to receive monthly updates
  • Ensuring accuracy of and producing updates via cloud-based asset management platform
  • Assist the loan securitization process 

Annual / Quarterly Reporting across platforms Internal and External (types of reporting include Annual and Quarterly Investor reports, Quarterly Internal Portfolio Reviews, Annual Business Plans and Quarterly Securitization Reporting)

  • Ad-Hoc analytical support as requested by Portfolio Manager(s)
  • Produce key data points on the respective portfolios related to any client request
  • Visit markets and properties to validate business plan assumptions, monitor property operations, and identify opportunities and issues in order to improve operations
  • Stay abreast of relative market information for all markets related to the portfolio. Work closely with Berkshire’s Research team to stay abreast of their viewpoint and recommended course of action for each market they cover
  • Work with Portfolio Valuation & Analytics Group in quarterly property valuations

JOB QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS:


Knowledge/Experience:

  • Previous experience in portfolio management, asset management or acquisitions
  • Demonstrate ability to identify problems early and solve them effectively with minimal assistance
  • Have a keen eye for multifamily value creation opportunities and the ability to act on them through others
  • Ability to develop and maintain effective internal and external relationships with a range of individuals including Clients, Portfolio Reporting, Property Management and Acquisitions and Dispositions
  • Ability to take direction from multiple sources while effectively managing multiple, changing priorities
  • Ability to assess and quantify risk
  • Real estate accounting and tax knowledge, a plus

Technical Requirements:

  • Excellent computer skills; proficiency with Microsoft Suite of products, including ability to perform excel modeling including cash flow modeling and various return calculations and analysis
  • Experience with Bloomberg, a plus
