Job Location: Menlo Park, CA
Compensation (base + bonus): $125K-$150K

DESCRIPTION:
We are currently seeking a senior accountant to join our accounting team located in Menlo Park, CA. The position is responsible for ensuring timely and accurate accounting and reporting for Menlo’s fund, managing and operating real estate entities. This is a position that can offer the right candidate a wide range of accounting exposure and responsibilities.

Your responsibilities will include, but are not limited to the following:

General Ledger Close

• Tax and/or US GAAP basis accounting for commercial real estate entities as well as various management, holding company and fund level entities
• Ensure monthly books are reconciled and closed consistent within established closing calendar.
• Perform a reconciliation of all closed books and records to ensure they are complete and accurate.
• Ensure monthly operating activity is in line with budget, to the extent it is not, investigate, analyze and explain significant variances.
• Calculate and enter CAPEX entries.
• Prepare monthly bank account reconciliations.
• Prepares balance sheet tie-out to balance the general ledger and commercial management systems.
• Calculates and records appropriate depreciation and amortization of fixed assets, tenant improvements, and leasing commissions.

Financial Reporting

• Work with the Controller and other Senior Accountants to prepare annual financial statements which will be audited by Menlo’s external auditors.
• Assist in the evaluation of significant US GAAP transactions (purchase price allocations, consolidated reporting, etc.).
• Prepare and maintain schedules for interim and year end audits, work with the Controller and other Senior Accountants to ensure audit deadlines are met.
• Researches and answers Property Managers’ questions regarding tenant statements.

Internal Controls

• Maintain and ensure internal controls are operating effectively.

Other

• Provide support and assist the Treasury Manager when necessary.
• Assist in the quarterly distribution process.
• Assist in the preparation of the annual financial review materials.
• Assist with check runs and payment of bills which includes interaction with Menlo Equities’ property management group.
• Assist in projects requested by senior management.

QUALIFICATIONS:
• Bachelor’s Degree in Business Administration, Finance or Accounting.
• 2-5 years of strong accounting experience or general ledger responsibilities. Preference is candidate has real estate experience, but strong accountants with a technical foundation working in private equity or a publicly traded firm will be considered.
• Knowledge of US GAAP.
• Experience with Yardi Voyager preferred.
• Strong computer skills (Excel, Word and Powerpoint) required.
• Must have good oral and written communication and strong time management skills.
• Must be a detailed oriented self-starter with good oral and written communication and strong time management skills
• Must be a team player willing to support a help out when called upon
