Description

Professor of Practice

Clemson University: College of Architecture, Arts and Humanities: City Planning and Real Estate Development

Location: Greenville, SC

Open Date: January 8, 2021

Description: The Master’s of Real Estate Development Program at Clemson University is seeking candidates for director of the program.

Depending on the qualifications of the preferred candidate, the position’s rank and tenure status are open, but tenure-track candidates must have already received tenure (i.e., be associate or full professor) by the position’s start date. That date is August 1, 2021.

The MRED program primarily focuses on the training of future real estate professionals who will be committed to creating developments and communities that are livable, equitable, and sustainable. It also focuses on contributing to scholarship and working with the community to build better places.

The director’s primary responsibility will be administering the program, working with faculty, students, staff, the program’s advisory board, the real estate development community, and the broader city and state to fulfill the program’s teaching, research, and service missions. In addition, the director is expected to teach 2-3 classes annually; assist in the development of the curriculum, including the delivery of experiential learning projects in South Carolina and abroad; and lead student recruitment efforts. Ideally, the director will also contribute to the program’s academic mission through scholarship.

Clemson University is a Carnegie Foundation-classified Doctoral-Highest Research Activity (R1) institution. MRED is based in the Department of City Planning and Real Estate Development (CPRED) within Clemson’s College of Architecture, Arts, and Humanities (CAAH). The program thus has strong ties to allied disciplines in the department and college, including city planning, architecture, landscape architecture, historic preservation, and construction science and management.

Qualifications

A Ph.D. is preferred, but individuals with exemplary professional experience and a professional master’s degree in real estate, finance, land development, city planning, or another related field will be considered. We prefer candidates with a successful record of administering an academic unit and positively working with faculty, staff, and upper administration to achieve strategic and long-term programmatic objectives. We also prefer candidates with a track record of scholarship in real estate development or related fields, and/or with significant professional experience in the real estate field. Finally, it is essential that the director can work collaboratively with diverse students, colleagues, and the broader community.

Application Instructions

Applicants must submit the following:

  • A cover letter of no more than two pages that includes a statement of interest;
  • A discussion of relevant experience that may include academic administration, research, professional practice, outreach, and/or teaching; and a brief overview of the candidate’s vision for diversity in the MRED program
  • A curriculum vita
  • A writing sample that may be academic or professional in nature (sole authorship preferred)
  • Contact information for three references, including email addresses and phone numbers.

This material will be submitted using the Interfolio Faculty Search.

Applications submitted by March 31, 2021 will be given full consideration.
