The agency’s annual budget for 2020/21 is $1.6 billion, with approximately 117,616 households benefitting from affordable housing programs in over 300 communities across the province.

It is within this context that BC Housing invites nominations and application for the position of Vice-President, Development and Asset Strategies, a role that will give a passionate leader the opportunity to, among other things, facilitate and increase supply of community-based affordable social housing across the province.

Reporting to the Chief Executive Officer and as a member of the executive leadership team, the Vice-President, Development and Asset Strategies oversees a large team that plans and implements provincial and joint provincial/federal affordable housing supply programs involving partnerships with non-profit societies, community groups, other levels of government, and private enterprise. The Development and Asset Strategies Branch plans, organizes, directs, and controls construction activities of various development projects, and approves all contracts and expenditures from project initiation, design and construction, through to occupancy. The Branch is also responsible for developing and implementing a province-wide strategy and business model for the redevelopment, improvement, and sustainability of BC Housing’s social housing stock. The Branch acts as a centre of expertise in the areas of building design, construction, and energy sustainability, and ensures all BC Housing properties—including existing buildings and new construction—meet green building design and energy performance standards and objectives.

The ideal candidate has knowledge and understanding of strategies and best practices pertaining to the planning, design, construction, financing and renovation of multiple unit residential housing. Given the scope of the role, the incumbent is strategic and analytical; possesses strong problem-solving skills; is deeply consultative; and is a strong facilitator, negotiator, and consensus-builder. The person who will realize success in the role takes great pride in coaching and mentoring teams, and maintains strong working relationships with government, Indigenous communities, housing partners, non-profit societies, community agencies, the construction industry, and other stakeholders involved in planning and implementing housing developments. A bachelor’s degree is sought (preferably in social or urban planning, public administration, or a related discipline), or the equivalent combination of education, training, and experience.
