Description:
Calmwater is seeking to hire an experienced debt originations professional based in Los Angeles, California to its growing commercial real estate credit platform to cover the West Coast and Mountain Regions. This individual will have the unique opportunity to play a pivotal role in launching a new comingled fund which will be dedicated to making direct commercial real estate bridge loans. The ideal candidate will have experience across a range of debt investment segments and have a track record of originating, structuring and executing complex debt transactions. 

 

Additionally, the Candidate will be responsible for:

  • Independently sourcing and efficiently screening new lending opportunities
  • Issuing soft quotes and term sheets after consultation with senior management on high conviction opportunities
  • Identifying and presenting to senior management the key risks and mitigants that exist for new investment opportunities
  • Working with a team to facilitate the credit underwriting process including property and market analysis, model development and the preparation of memos and presentations utilized during the due diligence phase of investment
  • Maintain and grow the firm’s network of industry professionals
  • Participate and network proactively at industry events on behalf of the firm

Experience:

  • 6 to 12 years of experience in real estate lending, focus on high yield credit transactions preferred

Qualifications:

  • Relevant experience financing complex, structured real estate transactions including fixed and floating rate first mortgage/mezzanine/preferred equity products that meet specific transaction requirements
  • Strong quantitative skills, including financial modeling, financial statement analysis as well as critical thinking and problem solving
  • Established network of relevant industry contacts including institutional sponsors, mortgage bankers and potential borrowers
  • Excellent organizational, communication and research skills with the ability to succinctly express and present ideas
  • Ability to analyze market dynamics and real estate projects for financial feasibility, with solid analytical and computer modeling skills including Excel and Argus
  • Entrepreneurial drive and ability to work both independently and as part of a highly collaborative and collegial environment
  • Undergraduate degree required
