Summary: The Director of Financial Accounting is expected to lead the company's Accounting, Financial Reporting, and Internal Controls functions, including effective management of the companies processes and systems. Reporting to the CEO, responsibilities include, but are not limited to

 

Essential Duties and Responsibilities include the following (other duties may be assigned):   

 

  • Lead the company’s Corporate, Property, Construction and Development Accounting functions, ensuring the production of timely, complete, and accurate financial data for both external and internal reporting purposes.
  • Provide technical expertise with respect to the company’s transaction activity and the implementation of new accounting standards.
  • Evaluate, implement, maintain, and monitor accounting policies and procedures consistent with GAAP and industry best practices.
  • Carry out the preparation of annual, quarterly, and monthly interim reports.
  • Responsible for the full accounting processes, i.e., timely posting of all financial transactions to G/L, generate & post all journal entries, and coordinate monthly close out.
  • Prepare bank reconciliations monthly for all accounts.
  • Prepares tax-related schedules and special schedules and reports as assigned.
  • Assist in the preparation of Annual budgets and periodic reforecasts.
  • Evaluate, maintain, and monitor policies and procedures related to internal controls over financial reporting and distributions.
  • Maintain the joint venture waterfall schedules making sure the calculations adhere to the specific project agreement.
  • Create and maintain the project budget in the accounting system making sure the approved budget is entered.
  • Verify, review, and analyze property general ledgers on both cash and accrual basis ensuring accuracy and adherence to established accounting policies and procedures.  Responsible for general and advanced accounting functions and for meeting calendar deadlines.
  • Proactively manage, motivate, and mentor department personnel.
  • Work with CPA firm to file quarterly and yearly taxes.
  • Effectively communicate with internal partners.
  • Manage relationships and lead communications with external auditors, and CPA firm.

 

Qualifications:

The ideal candidate for this role would exhibit the following qualifications:

 

Education/Experience:

  • Significant accounting experience with Real Estate operating companies. Property Management Accounting experience required.
  • Bachelor’s degree required; Master’s Degree preferred
  • Extensive knowledge of GAAP accounting, internal controls over financial reporting
  • 8-10 years of relevant experience with increasing responsibilities and recent leadership roles.
  • Private Real Estate development company experience preferred
  • Multifamily & Commercial Community real estate experience preferred.
  • Highly motivated self-starter with the ability to thrive in a dynamic, fast paced team -oriented environment.
  • Experience managing teams with sound judgement and strong leadership capabilities.
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, both written and verbal.

 

Computer Skills:

To perform this job successfully, an individual should also have an extensive working knowledge of Microsoft Applications. Extensive experience in Quick Books, AppFolio, Yardi, and Argus.

 

Certificates and Licenses:

CPA preferred

This positions workplace is for in-office with room for partial remote work.
