Basic Function:
- A VP or Senior VP Underwriter with 3-10 years of mortgage lending experience to join a team supporting all origination staff of the west coast of the firm, reporting to the Senior Managing Director. Primary job function will be to help prepare detailed loan submission requests, prepare cash flow models and asset level underwriting, and run loans from termsheet through closing. The Senior Underwriter will provide extraordinary service to external lenders and clients by producing detailed, orderly presentations of data, facts, and figures, and also potentially handle a book of business independently.
Main Responsibilities:
- Creates loan submission packages to be presented to Lenders for simple and complex/structured transactions. Packages will require underwriting and modeling.
- Completes mortgage applications for submission to the loan processing and underwriting departments
- Evaluates loan requests and analyze financial data
- Maintains contact with loan customer, communicating progress of loan and obtaining any required documentation
- Prepares files for underwriting, loan committee, private mortgage insurance company and investor including preparation of loan approval sheet
- Establishes detailed marketing/business plan including names of potential and existing loan customers, realtors, builders, developers, etc and frequency of contact
- Answers client calls to discuss various loan products and qualification information
- May participate in networking through professional, business and community organizations and activities to promote and market loan products
Requirements
- Must have mortgage underwriting and processing experience
- Must have deal side experience and have worked on structuring deals
- 3-10 plus years of experience which must include mortgage experience or lending experience
Education and Experience:
- Minimum 3 years of experience in a financial analysis environment in the commercial real estate finance industry, with specific experience underwriting mortgage loans
- Specific experience with multifamily financing preferred
- Specific experience with construction loan and bridge loan underwriting preferred
- Bachelor’s degree in Real Estate, Finance, Accounting or related discipline or an equivalent combination of education and experience from which comparable knowledge and skills may be acquired.
- Excellent organizational, interpersonal, quantitative, writing and communication skills; able to interface with top level executives.
- Strong computer skills with an advanced working knowledge of Excel, Argus and Word.
- Self-motivated, team-oriented and strong time management skills to prioritize deadlines.
- Strong research, analytical and problem-solving skills.
