Description


The City of Hastings, Nebraska (est. pop. 25,150) is seeking an experienced leader to be its next Director of Development Services.

The Director of Development Services plans, supervises, organizes, and manages the activities of the Development Services department, including the major functions of planning, zoning, permit administration, plan review, and code compliance. The position exercises considerable independence in carrying out policy decisions and departmental goals; coordinates assigned activities with other City departments and outside agencies; and provides highly responsible and complex administrative support to the City Administrator’s Office. Work involves representing the City before the City Planning Commission, builders and developers, and other groups involving all planning, zoning, community development, and code enforcement issues.


The City is offering a highly competitive salary range of $82,950 - $117,395, which is negotiable dependent upon qualifications and experience. A competitive benefits package is offered.


Qualified candidates will possess a bachelor's degree in Community and Regional Planning, Public Administration, or a related field, and a minimum of five years of professional experience in planning or community development, including two years in a supervisory or administrative role. Additionally, the candidate must have a valid driver's license with an acceptable driving record. A Master's degree in Community and Regional Planning, Public Administration, Business Administration, or a related field is preferred, as well as American Institute of Certified Planners certification (A.I.C.P.) and registration with relevant professional organizations.
