What we’re looking for:

We are seeking an Operations Manager-Accounting to join our team in the New York corporate office. The Operations Manager is a key member of the accounting team who manages the property accounting department and the preparation of quarterly and annual reporting. In addition, this role supports all accounting departments and various other departments within the company by sharing knowledge and providing technical accounting research and guidance. This role will report to the Property Accounting Director and drive improved controls and efficiencies in the accounting processes.

Your Responsibilities:

  • Provide management for direct reports including hiring, setting and monitoring of performance expectations, coaching and career development
  • Exhibit leadership across all accounting departments, acting as a positive role model for the team and encouraging the culture of continuous improvement and openness to change
  • Supervise the preparation and review of monthly, quarterly and annual internal and external reporting and filings, providing feedback to the Property Accounting Director and CFO
  • Manage and assist with the preparation and review of annual financial audits, overseeing property accountant involvement to ensure deliverables are complete, accurate, and delivered timely
  • Ensure that reporting packages are compliant with regulatory, GAAP and operating agreement requirements
  • Be a team player! Assist coworkers and property accountants as needed
  • Develop and review reporting templates and formulate analysis using applications such as MS Excel and Yardi Voyager
  • Proactively develop and implement accounting process improvements on an ongoing basis, including documentation of procedures and training the accounting team
  • Facilitate preparation of annual budgets by way of data population, providing historical information, offering improvement and efficiency suggestions and entering budgets into accounting database
  • Address accounting related queries, resolving problems and issues promptly, ethically and professionally
  • Collaborate with all departments to impart accounting procedural knowledge as it relates to best practices, database capabilities and requirements
  • Setup, testing, implementation and hand-off of accounting processes related to new operating properties and technology upgrades

Your Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Accounting
  • Minimum of 5 years combined experience in public accounting and real estate industry accounting
  • Leadership / Management experience
  • Advanced proficiency in MS Excel
  • Knowledge of Yardi Voyager or other property management related software
  • Back-end accounting database management experience a plus
  • Strong knowledge of GAAP/accounting theory
  • Excellent analytical skills
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills
  • Superior organization skills, detail oriented and able to multi-task
  • Strong research skills and motivation for self-development

Physical Demands:

 

  • This position involves regular walking, standing, sitting for extended periods of time, hearing, and talking.
  • May occasionally involve stooping, kneeling, or crouching.
  • May involve close vision, color vision, depth perception, focus adjustment, and viewing computer monitor for extended periods of time. 
  • Involves manual dexterity for using keyboard, mouse, and other office equipment.
  • May involve moving or lifting items under 10 pounds
