The Professionals’ Choice for Real Estate Jobs

Lost Generation

SelectLeaders Job Network’s “2020 Real Estate Hiring Trend Survey Results”, our industry’s collective wisdom on the year ahead, will be published later this week and soon available from our partner Professional Associations. However, the most intriguing finding for us is not being published. This was the first year we asked for our respondent’s level of experience in real estate. We have wondered whether the Global Financial Crisis, which stopped all but essential hiring from 2009 to 2013, when financing returned, was being felt today by employers looking for talent with 7 to 10 years of experience. The data is not conclusive, but trending toward a significant shortage of talent in the 7-to-10-year experience level. Talking with candidates we know anecdotally employers have hired younger, and older, to bridge the gap, and debunks the theory that employers only hire younger as a cost savings. This year’s perspectives from Candidates, Employer’s, Hiring Mangers, and Executives on 2020 forecast another fascinating year ahead for our industry.
