In 2004, the Center for Real Estate was formed as a partnership between PSU's acclaimed Schools of Urban Studies and Planning and Business Administration to manage the real estate programs at Portland State and serve as the vital link between the University and the real estate community. At the heart of the Center’s program is the Master of Real Estate Development.

Today, Portland State University's Center for Real Estate engages students with experienced instructors and talented real estate industry professionals. Our Master of Real Estate Development offers a truly interdisciplinary curriculum combining the fundamentals of real estate finance, economics and law, with sustainable urban development and case studies involving real world projects.

Master of Real Estate Development (MRED)

Program Highlights

The Portland State Master of Real Estate Development can be a full time (12 months) or part time (24 months) program and you can start in the spring or fall. You can build your expertise through interdisciplinary coursework that blends business and planning perspectives. Co-developed with industry leaders, the curriculum is highly relevant and application-oriented. Sustainability is a core value at Portland State and runs through the entire MRED curriculum, which is practical, interdisciplinary and industry-Aligned.

Here are a few focal points of the program:
-Fundamentals: Understand finance, economics, law, and market analysis.

-Community: Explore new and proven avenues for sustainable urban development.

-Projects: Apply your knowledge and gain visibility in a real-world capstone development project, culminating in a national NAIOP competition in Seattle.

-Excursions: Study real estate in the west coast’s leading city known for sustainable urban development through Portland site tours, or participate in an international or domestic real estate tour.

-Certifications: Fast track towards choice of professional licenses: CPM, LEED, Argus and CCIM.
